Preventive Dentistry
Preventive care is dental treatment and dental hygiene instruction that helps a patient reach and maintain good oral health. With a combination of regular check ups, dental x-rays and teeth cleaning appointments, your dentist, Dr. McMall and her dental hygiene staff can help monitor your dental health.
With good home care that includes brushing and flossing every day, our patients enjoy a healthy smile. Routine preventive care can also extend the life of any dental restorations you may have.
What are common preventive dentistry services?
- Dental examination, usually every 6 months
- Periodontal evaluation
- Oral cancer examination
- Digital x-rays
- Dental cleaning
- Fluoride treatments
Can I get a routine teeth cleaning?
Yes. We recommend that patient schedule a teeth cleaning appointment every six months. The patients who have gum disease may need to come at intervals of 3 – 4 months.
Do I need a night guard?
If the biting surfaces of your teeth are wearing down or if you are waking up with a sore jaw or pain, you may be a candidate for a nightguard. If you clench or grind your teeth, a nightguard could be your answer. Dr. McMall will complete a dental examination and help you find the right course of action.
Can you make me a mouth guard to protect my teeth while I play baseball?
Yes. Dr. McMall recommends that whenever you play or practice a sport, you wear a protective custom mouth guard. Unfortunately, accidents do happen and a properly fitted mouth guard will protect your teeth and your bite from the unexpected.
